Prayers for Success: What is favor?
When we pray for favor from God, what exactly are we asking for? What does God’s favor in our life mean? Praying for success could easily be trivialized to simply praying for a team to win, or to pass a test. Now that is not saying those prayers are not valid. Every concern that we have is heard by God. It simply means that we must understand the thing we are praying for, and realize who we are asking for this favor from.
Oxfords dictionary gives 2 definitions of favor as a noun (1) Approval, support, or liking for someone or something. (2) an act of kindness beyond what is due or usual. Praying for favor simply means that we are petitioning God for approval, acceptance, special benefits or blessings.
Interestingly enough, according to Strong’s concordance, favor is closely associated with grace, kindness, and mercy. It is often seen as the Greek word ‘charis’ and is used as grace, a gift or blessing brought to man by Jesus Christ, or kindness.
We should be reminded that when we pray for success, we are praying to the God of heaven and asking him for his kindness and grace in the situations and circumstances of our lives.
How do you pray for success and divine favor?
The first thing we must understand when praying for success is that when we pray from a place of humility, our father in heaven is faithful to hear and in his will act on our behalf. Praying with humility, however, does require that we are consistent with our prayers, and treat our prayer time not just as a buffet where we get all that we want with little investment, instead, our prayers should be consistent conversations with our closest confidant.
When you pray, your prayers should be an integral part of your quiet time. This ensures that you are familiar with God’s voice. Knowing his voice helps guide what to pray for.
Your prayers should be full of adoration and praise to our Father in Heaven. This helps you to place glory where glory is due. It humbles us to focus on the power that God has. It also reminds us that the things that we do are not in our own power but through the power of God in Jesus Christ.
Include confession and repentance into your prayers. This is also a way to remain humble and also to make sure you are in right standing with the Lord.
Lastly, our prayers should be for others as well as ourselves. Praying for success and our own needs is not selfish, we are told that we can bring our cares to God because he cares for us, however, if the only concerns we bring before God are those of our own favor or success, well that speaks more to the maturity of our Christian walk.

When we succeed whether that is in motherhood, or in our career, or in surviving the things that were set up for our harm, he is glorified. When we pray these prayers for success, we are not using prayer as a way to twist the arm of our father.
