Insecurity has been my crutch and my Achilles heel, for much of my adult life. When I was single, I was insecure about my looks, being single, and just not feeling like I was worthy of being a wife because: guilt.
After getting married, I quickly began feeling guilty about my mothering, so many around me had been mothers for much longer and seemed to have it all together, I on the other hand was winging it BIG time!
Insecurity is common, but it doesn’t have to be where we live! I have found that the best antidote for my feelings of insecurity have been really growing my pray life and pressing into biblical truths. This post will help you find strength through prayers for confidence.

What does God say about confidence?
Confidence in the church can sometimes be a taboo topic. To have confidence in yourself and your abilities can at times feel like it is sacrilegious. How can we be confident in ourselves and our abilities and give glory to God?
Our confidence comes from God alone
But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.
Hebrews 32:36 ESV
It is quite simple to be both self-confident and God honoring. In Hebrews 10:32-36, the author writes to encourage the converted Jews to be steadfast in the confidence that they have to endure all sorts of persecution.
He reminds them that God has been with them from the beginning and encourages them to remember who they are.
We can exhibit this same confidence by first recognizing who we are in Christ. It is a fact that in Christ Jesus, you are born again, a joint heir with Jesus, and have access to God. The one true, living God and creator of the universe.
When you believe this truth and have really made this a core part of your belief system, your mind is automatically set to give praise to the God that has bestowed on you this great gift.
Additionally, you can also walk in the confidence of that identity and believe bigger for yourself and those around you. You see, our self-confidence is an extension of the truth that we are children of God.
How do you pray for confidence?
We should pray often for confidence, because the enemy is hell bent on having us forget who we are in Christ and to sacrifice the gift of salvation that God so freely gave. There are four basic ways that we can pray for confidence. Below I will list prayer points for each of them.
1. Praying for confidence means praying against limiting beliefs that would set themselves up to hinder the good work that God has planned for you. These prayers may look like praying for forgiveness or prayers that bind certain spiritual hinderances. Prayer points against limiting beliefs include:
- Praying against the spirit of Fear
- Praying against insecurity
- Praying against low self-esteem
- Praying against untrue identities of yourself
- Forgiveness for sins
- Praying against shame and guilt
2. Praying for confidence is praying for God to remind you who you are in him. These prayers for confidence often look like praise of God, and gratitude. They may also include praying biblically based affirmations over your life. Prayer points for identity
- Pray that God would remind you of your identity
- Thank God for the gift of eternity
- Thank God for keeping you
- Praise him for your testimony and for everything he has brought you out of
3. Pray that God will fill you with his spirit. Remember that God does not give us a spirit of fear. Instead he gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit and power, love, and self-control. God’s power is in us, through the blood and holy name of Jesus. Here are a few prayer points to pray for confidence:

4. Pray God’s promises over your life. This is the last way to pray for confidence. Here we are seeking the promises of God for our lives and praying for those. This is also how we pray WITH confidence. We already know that the promises of God are yes and Amen.
Praying these things that God has already said for our live in our lives is one of the best ways to grow in confidence because we know that God’s word never returns void.

Prayer is one of the most powerful gifts we have. Building a relationship with God through prayer on a daily basis is also one of the best things we can do for our confidence. Growing in our faith and being sure of the knowledge of God’s love for us is the beginning of our confidence.

Prayer for confidence and courage
Whether you are worried about a presentation, or a job interview, there are times in our lives when we may need courage and a more positive mindset. Praying for confidence and courage to do well in your career or when making a big decision can help you walk in faith of the plans that God has for you!
Prayer: Lover of my heart, Savior of my soul, you are the one true God. I love you, I am yours and I cling to you, I long for you! Your love for me is the one thing that makes sense when everything around me seems to be filled with confusion. I lean into you and the truth that you speak over me. I am worthy.
You saw me, before I was formed in my mother’s womb and you rejoiced over me, you made plans for me, plans for my good, plans to prosper me, plans to protect me.
Even when I was far from you, you pursued me with a relentless love that only a perfect Father can have for his daughter! O Lord I pray for courage to walk in the plans that you have for me. I pray that you would keep me close as I step out in faith and do your will for my life. I will lean not on my own understanding but will follow your will for my life.

In many cases, praying for confidence and strength is synonymous! Knowing who we are and whose we are is a large part of our self confidence levels. Ultimate, self-confidence is an extension of the confidence that we have in God. Our prayers for confidence should always, therefore, begin and end with God. Starting by praising him for everything he is, and ending by thanking him for everything he has done.
