Self-Care Sunday Devotionals: Seek His Face

“Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.”

1 Chronicles 16:11

Melanie was at a crossroads in her professional life. She had spent much of her adult life working towards becoming a nurse. She enjoyed working with patients she loved the ability to be able to impact those in her community but she felt a yearning to do something more.

She’d always enjoyed writing and started writing in her spare time and felt a nudge to write a book about the impact nursing had on growing her faith. But with everything on her plate she couldn’t fathom adding anything else, let alone believe that this new venture could be successful.

Her husband encouraged her to take time to seek God’s face before making a decision. “Where do I even start?” Melanie thought as she pulled into the driveway that evening after her shift.

As she came opened the door, she saw her toddler running down the hallway towards her. The girl was waving at her mama with the biggest grin on her face as she chanted the word “ma-ma” again and again.

Melanie scooped her daughter up into her arms, realizing God had just answered her question. Sometimes, when you’re not sure what the next step is, it can be tempting to rush your decision and make a hasty move.

But as a child of God, you have access to your Heavenly Father. Instead of wrestling with this decision, take it to Him and wait patiently for Him to show you the way ahead.

God, when I don’t know the path ahead, please help me to seek Your face. Let me be willing to wait for You to guide my steps. Thank you for helping me and for leading me along the best path for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
