New years are exciting and when we are intentional about considering the opportunities that a new year may present us with and directing our focus on praying through those opportunities we can surely create space for God to do amazing things!! So how do we do this?
Well, Habukkuk 2:2-3 says;
Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.
We are called to write down the visions God gives to us. We can do this through journaling and through the process of creating a vision board. This guide will help you create a beautiful vision board that can help encourage you to stay focused on your God given dreams and purpose.

What is a Christian Vision board?
A vision board is a visual tool and reminder of the goals, plans, and purposes that you have prayerfully been given from God. I like to think of it as a creative prayer journal. Some of us aren’t quite verbal in our expressions and a vision board is a visualization tool that helps us to take the mental picture of where we would like to go or where we feel we are being led in life and place it on paper as a reminder.
Writing the vision out by creating a Christian vision board helps us to maintain focus and clarity of mind. It also keeps us intentional in our actions.
If you are looking to get clarity on your goals as well as be able to focus your prayers to achieve your God given focus. The interesting thing about using a vision board is that you do not have to do it all by yourself if you do not want to; you can incorporate friends and family who will help bring out the best vision of yourself in the future. Asking questions such as:
- What are my best qualities?
- Where areas in life can I use some improvement?
- What activities have I excelled in?
Asking questions from those you love in addition to spending quiet time with God pondering these questions can help you create a vision board that can encourage you while you work in purpose.
Can a Christian Create a vision board?
The short answer is yes! God wants us to write down the visions and revelations that he gives us as a reminder and testimony of his faithfulness!
There is a lot of question about whether or not it is acceptable for a Christian to create a vision board and the reason for that is understandable. New age practices have muddled up the truth of God’s word with thoughts like law of attraction and vision casting. That, however, is not what a Christian vision board is. as followers of Christ, our vision boards can be likened to prayer boards, our prayers in visual form.
In the same way that pictures are able to communicate much more than text, making a visual representation of your prayers and purpose enables you to see them clearly. The brain activity that happens when someone views an image is quite intense but worth taking note of.
As expressed earlier, Habukkuk 2:2 gives us a charge to write the vision:
Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.
How often do we get a vision, revelation, or answer from God and then do nothing with it? Writing the vision on a vision board is one way to put to paper the revelations God has given you.
The cool thing also is our brains are wired towards creativity and invention. We were created in the image of God. He is creative, we are creative. Writing down the visions that he gives us allows us to focus our intentions, our prayers, and our work on the things he has called us to do. When we write the vision and pray over these, our minds begin to flow with the creativity we were given from God. This mental work causes the rest of the body to work towards a successful outcome.
Additional Vision Board Scriptures
Before we dive too much deeper into how to create a physical board that reflects the Visions and purpose that God has given us, here are a few additional verses you can study that help show us that writing the vision is a great way to commit the desires of your heart to the will of God for the best life!
“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions”
Joel 2:28
Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.
Proverbs 29:18
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
2 Peter 3:9
Each of these scriptures points to two things!
1. God is intimately aware of the future plans that he has for you and they are good!
2. Vision is key to knowing where God is leading you, it also allows for greater spritual growth as you are more intentional to hear from the Lord in your daily life.

What should a Christian vision board say?
This is one of the more personal parts of a vision board and also where the Christian vision board will differ from one that is more based on goals. Our visions, that is the goals that we are walking towards should be constantly surrendered to the Lord. The things that he lays on our hearts are the things that we put on our vision boards.
To create an encouraging Christian vision board you must be in consistent communication with the Father so that you can hear what he says. That is what is meant by writing the vision, that is to say, we are creating a vision board around the things that the Lord has said to us.
Additionally, you can add the things that you are hoping for him to intervene in. For example, maybe you are hoping for growth in your marriage or with your children. Adding these to your vision board along with scriptures can help to ensure that your vision board encourages your prayers and guides you to trust more in the Father who is able to do exceedingly abundantly.
For reference some areas that you can consider placing on your vision board include:
- Family
- Career
- Finances
- Children
- Wisdom
- Faith
- Dreams and Aspirations
- Friendships
- Marriage
- Etc.
The list is literally endless. There are so many directions you can take your vision board, especially because there are no boundaries with where the Lord can show up and show out in your life.
Christian vision board checklist
After you have decided what you will add to your vision board its time to get creative. Now I want to note that you absolutely should be constantly praying over your vision board and seeking holy spirit inspiration!
To create a vision board checklist, you will want to first list all of the things you want to put on your vision board.
Next you’ll gather supplies. Literally any and everything could be a vision board supply. You’ll want to consider the esthetic, after all you want your Christian Vision Board to be consistently visible to you. Some ideas for things to use to create your vision board are:
- A poster board, can be cork, cardboard or wood
- Scissors
- Printable Vision board images
- Printable Vision Board Quotes
- Printables Vision Board Words
- Old magazines
- Glue, tape, or other adhesives
- Construction paper
- Stickers
- Glitter
- Your bible
- Markers
- Additional embellishments such as Washi Tape, ribbon, etc.
After you have collected the supplies all that is left to do is to map our your vision board and then have fun!
Mapping out your faith vision board
The next step in creating and effective Christian vision board is to begin mapping out your visual aids. This board is such a transformative tool, especially when done with intention and setting it with the word of God as the center.
Here, you will want to start adding items and pictures on your dream board. This is the most fun part of creating a personal vision board. Remember that you are creating something beautiful that outlines your personal goals and surrendering those goals to the will of God.
Take a moment here to choose a theme. You can also group your goals into categories. I also like to take each of my goals and find bible verses and promises from God that speak to that Goal!
Then you can use those as focal points along with positive affirmations as a form of prayer request to the Lord Regarding your life goals.
With this strategic plan in place, you can proceed to lay out the remaining items from your vision board kit to complete your vision board.
Before you permanently glue something on your board, lay it on your best spot and visualize it amid the bigger picture. With gluing, leave the edges free at first to allow room for overlaps and underlays. Once you are sure that what you have stuck is in its rightful space? Go ahead to pin down the edges and place weight to ensure a flat finish.
If you don’t prefer a physical vision board, there are so many online tools to help you create a digital vision board. This can allow you to use pre-made templates to create your own vision board!
Write the Vision: Make the Plan
If you are like me, maybe you have set yourself on the path to trying out some new habits this year. Maybe its your health and you are hoping to finally see some change in the scale and some room in your clothes. Perhaps you have been eying your finances for years and would like to see the new year bring more stability in your bank account! Whatever it is that you are hoping to see become new, my prayer is that you reach whatever goal you set for yourself!
After a year of so many transitions and having a lot of things happen around and to us, a vision board can be an amazing way to plan for the 2023 you are hoping to see. Trade the anxieties of this year for the hope that comes when you press into God’s plan for you life. When you do this, you get to enjoy the peace that comes from casting your cares and anxiety on him!
